Progress on the assembly of my giant Octopus in bronze

My Kraken is being assembled and Fettled meticulously in bronze, many panels have already been assembled to make its body bulk.

The legs will be attached once weld lines on the body are finished being hidden. Textures are welded up and joins hidden.

This sculpture will stand outside my Stellenbosch studio on 44 Church Street.

Little Flying Cheetah

He’s a crazy cat flying, hardly touching the ground with his speedy momentum and razor sharp claws!

Flying Cheetah has a limited potential of 12 castings in the edition.

Bronze foundry process. My Giant Octopus The Kraken’s arms and suckers in bronze, before assembly in fettling at the foundry. Bronze sculptures are welded together from many separate bronze parts;

The pieces are hollow cast like a large Easter egg of bronze;

The ceramic shell application process depicted below, is the ceramic mold application before wax is flushed out and into which bronze is cast;

Below please view a short clip of the raw bronze freshly broken out of its ceramic mold, after sandblasting, gating still attached;

The whole Giant Octopus sculpture will be assembled and welded together like a large jigsaw puzzle, this monumental sculpture takes eight to ten weeks for production on order if it is not immediately available. Limited edition. /6..

Giant Kingfishers on line

The Giant Kingfishers sit together on their line with numerals 2 and 3 most prominent in the composition.

The sculpture is complete in wax for bronze on an edition of 12 possible castings on the edition.

Medusa in progress

My new sculpture of the winged Medusa crowned with Cape Cobras.

A Maquette for life size, she already makes a tall sculpture, afloat above her world, surrounded by the four Winds.

I have worked her body and wings separately, wings will be assembled in fettling.

Below is a photo of the ball of four beastly winds that the figurine is mounted upon;

Both the World that she descends on that feature the four winds and her angelic wings will be assembled in the foundry process after being cast.

Here are a few images of the four winds that blow fair and foul, that bend trees and howl, whistling as they roar…

Upon the the shoulders of the beastly four, Medusa they bore and with her descent nature was spent.

Large Owl on Infinity in the studio

I have sculpted a bas-relief of slumbering Shrews in the base, this becomes one of my ‘Tall Tales of Owl and Shrews’ the Shrew dream of wisdom up high in the sky.
